Gilvin’s car hit the truck, then continued off the roadway and hit a power pole on the passenger side of his vehicle, according to the state patrol, which noted he was not wearing a seat belt. Gilvin was taken first to Springfield Regional Hospital, then transported by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital.
Griffin was not injured, but his truck sustained disabling damage.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the patrol, which did not make mention of any traffic violations or charges.
UPDATE @ 12:40 p.m.: The driver of the car was described as a man in his 20s. He suffered critical injuries in the head-on crash, said a first responder at the scene.
According to the Ohio State Patrol trooper on scene, the man was driving north on Limestone at a high speed. He went left of center and hit a truck head on, spinning both vehicles in opposite directions. Neither the truck driver, nor his passenger, were injured. OSP will continue the investigation.
According to scanner traffic, the driver, whose name hasn’t been released, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
UPDATE @ 11:40 a.m.: According to the Springfield dispatcher, the emergency responders are attempting to identify the injured person. One officer requested that the Ohio State Patrol be called to provide assistance.
CareFlight was dispatched from Urbana to take a patient from Springfield Regional Hospital to Dayton’s Miami Valley Hospital about 11:11 a.m.
UPDATE @ 11:30 a.m.: A power pole owned by Ohio Edison was down at the crash site and a responding officer called for the power company to come quickly, as it was catching on fire.
One person was removed to a hospital.
The vehicles involved were a silver car and a truck. We are on scene working to gather more details.
FIRST REPORT
A two-vehicle crash was reported in Springfield at 2454 N. Limestone St., in front of the Home City Federal building.
When the fire department arrived, they notified the dispatcher it was going to be a very serious crash, possibly a fatal one. Crews have shut down both directions of North Limestone in the area.
We have a crew on the scene and will bring more details as they come in.
