Local school evacuated after threatening note found

Wapakoneta Police confirm they were alerted to a threatening note found on the floor of Wapakoneta High School just after noon Thursday.

The district posted details of the incident on its Facebook page.

Details of the threat were not disclosed.

As a precaution, police and school officials evacuated high school students to nearby Harvest Baptist Church.

Law enforcement did search students as they exited the building. The high school building was searched and cleared by police. Students who could drive were sent home after they were searched.

All other school buildings in the district were notified and placed on a soft lock down.

In a statement placed on Wapakoneta City Schools Facebook page, the district stated it would provide transportation home today as regularly scheduled for all other buildings.

No incident occurred at the school, according to police.

In the social media post made by the district, it stated "we will continue to investigate this as we take this threat very seriously. We expect to have school on a normal schedule tomorrow and we will inform you if we have any additional details."
