Man accused of child sex crimes may have made cell phone videos

The Riverside man indicted on 29 counts of sexually assaulting three young girls over several years may have made cell phone videos of himself with girls.

A Riverside police report shows that a witness told law enforcement that Michael Bohannon, 59, engaged in sexual activity with girls and sometimes had them watch video of him with other girls. A Riverside police detective did not return a message seeking comment.

Bohannon was indicted by a Montgomery County grand jury on 16 counts of rape of a child younger than 10, four counts of rape of a child younger than 13, seven counts of gross sexual imposition of a child younger than 13 and two counts of importuning. Bohannon is scheduled to be arraigned in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on Thursday.

Officials said two of the alleged victims are sisters while the third is their friend. Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Greg Flannagan said Bohannon is a friend of the sisters’ family. The girls are now ages 13, 12 and 13. The time frame of the alleged crimes ranges from January 2008 until September 2013 when the girls were ages 6 to 8. Flannagan said Bohannon’s record only shows minor traffic offenses.

The police report said one of the girls’ fathers heard from his daughter that Bohannon had forced her into a sex act. The report mentions allegations by two other girls. Riverside police have said there could be more victims who could contact them at (937) 233-1801.

None of the allegations against Bohannon make any sense to Alicia Staup, 35, of Dayton. Staup said she’s known Bohannon since she was a little girl. She said he was a relative to her step-father and that she lived with the Bohannon family when there were issues in her home.

“Mike and (his wife) took me in under their wing as if I was their own child,” Staup said. “He always had kids playing in his house. He was never that guy. He was one that if a kid needed something, he would give the shirt off his back.”

Staup said though she hasn’t talked to Bohanon — who she called “Uncle Mike” — in the past three years, she’s been around him off and on for several years. “I just don’t believe it,” Staup said.

Bohannon’s latest resident is on Rondowa Ave., where he was arrested Sept. 13. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $750,000. Officials have said Bohannon has lived in Riverside for the past 15 years in the Airway Road and Avondale Plat sections of the city.

According to Montgomery County property records, Bohannon bought the house at 2633 Rondowa Avenue in Dec. 2009 for $52,500.

Clara Blair, who’s lived on Rondowa for 66 years, lives directly across the street from Bohannon.

“I only saw him going in and out of there,” Blair said.

A social media page of Bohannon’s identifies him as a long-haul tow truck driver for a local towing company and a 1971 Stebbins High School graduate.

Bohannon’s daughter, Jessica, said her father has lived in Riverside for at least the last 26 years. “He’s never once tried to do anything,” Jessica Bohannon said. “We have a lot of friends who used to come over and stay the night, whatever, and even to this day they’ve (said) ‘We’ve never felt weird or anything like that around your dad.’ “

She added that her father is “completely stunned” and “blown away” by these allegations.
