Man breaks into Beavercreek gun store, leaves empty-handed

UPDATE @ 2:53 p.m.

Andrew Palmer, owner of Palmer Firearms for five years, said he was alerted about 5 a.m. Tuesday of the break-in that occurred at 4:30 a.m.

Palmer said the front window was bashed in by concrete pavers, and the glass counter was busted. But everything was locked up, so the suspect got away with nothing.

“Good luck; everything’s locked up,” Palmer said. “There’s really nothing in here they’re going to be able to take as far as handguns, shotguns and rifles. It’s all locked down pretty tight now.”

Palmer said surveillance video shows the suspect was in the shop for about two minutes, and didn’t have a flashlight so it was dark.

Palmer said he’s addressed some security issues recently, including locking down the cheaper shotguns.

He said it will cost about $400 to replace the glass counter.

“We sell things that can kill people; there’s a lot of responsibility with that and it should be taken very seriously,” Palmer said.

UPDATE @ 6:40 a.m.

Police said a man who broke into a Beavercreek gun shop Tuesday morning left empty handed.

Beavercreek police Sgt. Dave Darkow said the man smashed the glass front door of Palmer’s Firearms, formerly called PSG Firearms, at 2338 Grange Hall Road and entered the store around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Darkow said the man was clearly looking for handguns to steal, but all weapons were in places where they couldn’t be taken. Police said the suspect left the store shortly after without taking anything.

Darkow said the suspect is described as a white male, in his 20s, that is tall and slender in built. The business had surveillance video that captured the crime, and investigators are currently reviewing that video now. Pictures of the suspect are expected to be released later.

Despite several other break-ins at gun shops in the Dayton area, Darkow said Tuesday’s attempted burglary was not connected to others. He said in previous cases, several people break into the shops, but in this break-in, only one man was responsible.
