Man dies after jumping off I-71 bridge

OREGONIA — Police have confirmed the man who jumped off the Jeremiah Morrow Bridge on Interstate 71 Monday evening, March 8 intended to commit suicide.

A 38-year-old Jamestown, Ohio man plunged to his death at around 5:45 p.m., according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. Troopers found a suicide note in his car that he parked on a berm near the bridge, according to release from the Lebanon post.

A state trooper was traveling south on I-71 when he spotted a man walking on the northbound side of the bridge. The trooper turned around and activated his emergency lights.

The man jumped off the east side of the bridge just as the trooper approached. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bridge, the site for numerous suicide attempts, is the tallest in Ohio and crosses the Little Miami River.
