Man found dead near bar, preschool parking lot

DAYTON — A 33-year-old man was found shot dead Friday morning in a parking lot near a bar and a preschool, and homicide detectives are investigating.

The body of John H. Lewis of the 100 block of Warder Street was found in a parking lot for the Santa Clara district behind a vacant commercial building at 1942 N. Main St. The body was in the middle of the lot not far from the Big E Bar.

Just down the street, parents dropped off children at the STEPS Creative Center preschool.

Multiple calls about shots being fired came to emergency dispatchers about 6:45 a.m., according to Lt. Pat Welsh. Officers arrived to find Lewis dead in the parking lot.
