Man who died in Dayton shooting identified

DAYTON — A 31-year-old man who died early Thursday after a shooting that occurred at 163 Brooklyn Avenue, has been identified as Pachino Willis of Princeton Drive, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Willis was pronounced dead at 3:50 a.m. at Miami Valley Hospital. An autopsy has been scheduled for today.

Willis showed up at Miami Valley Hospital with gunshot wounds while Dayton Police were there on an unrelated incident, according to Dayton Police Sgt. Michael Pauley. He was driven there by two other males, who claimed the shooting happened at another location.

In the meantime, Dayton police were also called to the 100 block of Brooklyn Avenue after receiving a call about shots being fire in the area. That call was placed at approximately 3:40 a.m.

Police dispatchers were told that up to five gunshots could be heard in the neighborhood, Pauley said.

When police arrived to Brooklyn Avenue they were told by a resident of the block that 163 Brooklyn was where the shooting occurred. Officers knocked on the door of the address and entered when no one answered the door.

While they were inside they noticed some bullet casings, bullet holes, a scale, some unknown amount of drugs, but no visible signs of blood, Pauley said. Police were still at the home as of 6:30 a.m.

Police were checking the Brooklyn address when they received a report from Second District police officers, who were at the hospital and told them that a man had showed up with gunshots wounds. Police later determined that this man, later identified as Willis, was involved in the shooting at the Brooklyn address.

The two males who brought Willis to the hospital were being questioned by detectives as of 6 a.m.

Homicide detectives were also called to the Brooklyn address.
