2 men sought in deadly shooting

Victim, in his 40s, found in kitchen of apartment, cops say.

DAYTON — Police continue to search for at least two suspects following Monday’s shooting death of a man in an apartment building.

The victim was found dead after police were dispatched to 2113 Mayfair Road about 2:40 p.m. to investigate reports of a shooting, Dayton Sgt. Mark Spiers saod.

The victim was found in the kitchen and had been shot multiple times, Spiers said.

Spiers would only say that the victim was in his 40s. The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office is to perform an autopsy.

Police will rely on assistance from a security camera that was stationed on a nearby building and recorded two men leaving the apartment building about the time the shooting was reported, he said.

Police found a small amount of marijuana in the apartment, but have not determined a motive in the shooting, Spiers said.

There were no signs of forced entry, he said.

The video showed the two men climbing into the backseat of a waiting vehicle and being driven away, Spiers said.

The vehicle was described as a Dodge Durango or a Jeep Cherokee, he said, noting that it was silver or tan in color.

Neighbors said the two-story building has been vacant while the owner completes renovations. Most of the windows are boarded up with plywood.
