Motion filed to try Indianapolis teens as adults in Dayton armed robbery

Montgomery County prosecutors have motioned to move two Indianapolis teenagers accused of an armed robbery at a Dayton T-Mobile store to adult court.

The 16- and 17-year-old are facing aggravated robbery and kidnapping charges.

All of the counts include three-year firearm specifications, according to the prosecutor’s office.

A motion to try the teens as adults has also been submitted.

If a juvenile court find probable cause that the suspects robbed the Brown Street store, the 17-year-old’s transfer would be mandatory under Ohio law, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The 16-year-old’s transfer would require an amenability hearing.

During the July 29 robbery, one of the suspects reportedly showed a gun and the pair tied up a store employee.

They then stole cell phones and other items before fleeing, said the prosecutor’s office.

Tracking one of the stolen phones, police located the suspects in Indianapolis.

When the teens realized Indianapolis police were following, they attempted to flee, but crashed.

Police took them into custody and found a gun and stolen items in the vehicle.

The teens were extradited back to Montgomery County.

“These teenagers came from Indianapolis into our community in order to commit an armed robbery,” said Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. “They should be tried as adults and held accountable for their actions. There is simply no better way to ensure that these juveniles won’t commit more violent felonies.”
