Police want your help with hotel shooting suspect near Dayton Mall

Miami Twp. police are seeking the public’s help in capturing a suspect in a hotel shooting last month.

Jesse Lamar Shepherd is wanted on a warrant in connection with several felony charges following a Dec. 18 shooting at the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel near the Dayton Mall, according to police.

Shepherd, 28, is described as 5-foot-6, 130 pounds, and is believed to have cut his hair and added tattoos — “soldier” and “100” — to his face, according to police.

Court records indicate a Dayton address.

After the shooting, the suspect fled from a traffic stop and crashed, police said.

Shepherd is wanted on a warrant is for felonious assault, including with a deadly weapon; aggravated robbery; and failure to comply with an officer, according to police.

The shooting occurred about 1:30 p.m. outside the hotel on Prestige Place and suspects fled, leading to a police chase that ended in Moraine with one person arrested and Shepherd on the run, according to police.

A hotel worker called 9-1-1, saying the victim outside laying near a sport utility vehicle. The worker then gave a description of a pickup fleeing the parking lot, records show.

Officers followed the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident until it crashed in Moraine at the intersection of Nicholas and Dryden roads.

Two people fled, and one was taken into custody. Police later obtained a warrant for Shepherd, but he has eluded authorities.
