Florida woman drives on four flat tires, accused of biting deputy

A Florida woman is accused of biting a deputy after being pulled over for allegedly driving drunk.

Janice Hastings, 60, was spotted driving recklessly on Sunday in the Florida Keys, and parked her 2005 Cadillac in the drive-thru of a McDonald's restaurant, according to FlKeysNews.

When authorities confronted Hastings while she was eating in the front seat of her vehicle, she put the vehicle in drive and drove off. A chase ensued, in which Hastings drove 45 mph on the outside lane of a highway and police deployed spike strips to puncture her tires.

Hastings continued to drive on four flat tires until eventually coming to a stop, but refusing to open her car door or windows, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office told FlKeysNews.

After deputies broke a window and removed her from the vehicle, Hastings refused to take a roadside sobriety test or spit out the gum she was chewing. When a deputy attempted to remove the gum from her mouth, she bit him, according to FlKeysNews.

Hastings was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.

She was released from jail on Monday after posting $30,000 bond.
