Troopers say Hughes was being stopped for traveling 75 mph in a 55 mph zone, and speeds never exceeded 75 mph during the four minute chase. The chase ended when Hughes lost control and crashed into a parked pickup truck on Commonwealth Drive near Atkinson Drive.
Hughes and two other passengers in the car fled the scene on foot before being captured. Both passengers were injured in the crash and were transported to Greene Memorial Hospital. Hughes did not require medical attention and was arrested at the scene.
Alcohol is a suspected factor in the chase and crash. Hughes will be cited with felony OVI, driving without a license, and fleeing and alluding police. The two passengers will not be cited in the incident.
The incident remains under investigation but troopers say the car involved in the chase was not owned by Hughes and troopers will contact the owner of the vehicle to see if Hughes had permission to be driving.
