UPDATE: Fairfield woman’s death ruled a homicide by coroner’s office

UPDATE @ 4:16 p.m.:

The Butler County Coroner’s Office has ruled the death of 23-year-old Katherine Lobono a homicide, according to a report released this afternoon.

INITIAL POST:

Fairfield police are investigating a 23-year-old woman’s death in Fairfield as a homicide, according to a police report.

Katherine Lobono was found dead in her apartment with a bullet casing lying next to her at 4:18 a.m. Wednesday, according to police report and a 911 call.

Two friends who were dog sitting for Lobono went to her apartment early Wednesday morning on Chapel Hill Drive in the Villages of Wildwood and found her body.

They were going to check on the dogs, but when they saw Lobono’s car, they were going to return the key, according to the 911 call.

The first of the two friends on the 911 call said he saw her on the floor next to the couch.

Dispatcher: “Is she breathing?”

Friend one: “No she’s not, man. There’s blood on the floor. I don’t know what the hell happened.”

They checked for a pulse at the request of the dispatcher, and the caller said she felt “cold.”

The second friend was handed the phone, and the dispatcher asked if there were any weapons around, and he said, “There’s a single bullet casing on the floor next to her head.” There were no weapons around her, he said.

The case remains under investigation.
