The officer exited her vehicle to check on the woman. At this time a male, Gregory Hoefert, approached the officer and began yelling at her, using profanities, to get away and that no one asked her to be there, police said.
The officer proceeded to tell the man that she was just checking on the woman who had fallen to ensure she was okay and would get home safely, according to the report.
When the man continued to yell at the officer, she grabbed him by the waistband and attempted to bring him toward her police cruiser. At this time, the man raised his arms, striking the police officer and “brought his fists up to fight,” according to the report.
Because of Hoefert’s apparent strength and his intent to assault her further, the police officer drew her Taser gun and used it, striking on the man’s abdominal area from a distance of four feet, police said.
Dayton police then arrested Hoefert for assaulting an officer.
Hoefert was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and treated for his injuries and then transported to the Montgomery County jail.
Hoefert is scheduled to appear in front of the court to hear his charges on Monday afternoon.
Hoefert graduated from UD in May 2011. This weekend there were Alumni Weekend activities happening on campus. Cilla Shindell, Director of Media Relations, confirmed Hoefert was not a registered guest at any alumni events.
