Police: Man on bicycle flees traffic stop

Dayton police arrested a 20-year-old for multiple warrants and resisting arrest after he allegedly fled from them on a bicycle Monday night.

Travis Chism was booked into the Montgomery County Jail early Tuesday for obstructing official business, resisting arrest and failure to comply with order of an officer. He also had warrants for drug possession and theft.

According to a police report, officers spotted him riding his bike on the sidewalk at about 10:20 p.m. Monday on Xenia Avenue. He also didn't have a light on the bike and officers attempted to talk to him about the bike traffic violations.

Chism allegedly stopped momentarily and then took off on the bike westbound. Police pursued on foot and attempted to use a Taser to get him to stop, but the probes hit his jacket and didn't work.

According to the report Chism was almost struck by a pickup truck while he continued to flee. He eventually got boxed in against a fence in a yard on Nassau Street and officers wrestled him to the ground.

When asked why he ran, Chism said "I don't know what's going on I blacked out," according to the report.
