The fire was reported around 7:25 p.m. Jan. 1 at their home in the 3300 block of Retriever Road in southeast Columbus, our media partner 10TV reported.

Nerissa Distin, 33, Gary Morris, 42, and their young daughter Serina Morris were found dead in the home.

The deaths of the mother and 2-year-old girl are considered homicides.

Gary Morris and the young girl died from smoke inhalation, police told 10TV on Friday.

Police earlier said Gary Morris died as a result of his own actions.

Family members said Morris and Distin immigrated from Jamaica and became U.S. citizens.
