Pursuit of reckless driver ends in a crash

Police briefly chased a driver in Beavercreek before he crashed in a residential area.

Troopers from the Xenia post of the Ohio Highway Patrol say a driver was observed driving recklessly as he turned onto Grange Hall Road from Dayton Xenia Road around 11:45 p.m. Saturday night. When troopers attempted to stop the SUV, the driver, identified as William Porter, 35 of Beavercreek, took off heading north on Grange Hall Road.

Speeds in the chase reached 80 mph according to Sgt. Andy Worcester from the Ohio Highway Patrol, but the chase only lasted two minutes before Porter crashed on Knollwood Drive near Turnbull Road.

Porter was injured in the crash, but was transported to Soin Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is a suspected factor in the chase and crash. Porter will be cited with OVI, reckless operation, fleeing and alluding police, and a seatbelt violation.
