Beatty-Jones had been sought in connection with an overnight shooting at the Western Manor Apartment Complex on James H. McGee Boulevard.
Officers led Beatty-Jones to the Montgomery County Jail about 10:30 a.m. after briefly meeting with homicide detectives at police headquarters. Beatty-Jones did not speak to the media before being booked into the jail on a felonious assault charge.
The injured security guards have been identified in a police report as James C. Locker Jr., 50, and William St. Peter, 54. Moonlight Security officials declined comment. Police are not releasing which of the guards was critically wounded.
The guards not wearing a protective vest was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital by ambulance after being shot in the torso, police said. He underwent emergency surgery and his condition has improved, Sgt. Gary White said.
The guard wearing a protective vest is expected to be released from the hospital today, officers said. The guards were armed but never fired their weapons, White said.
The men are full-time security guards and not police officers, police said.
Beatty-Jones was near the apartments about 1 a.m. because of illegal drug-related activity, White said. He fled as the guards approached his vehicle because they suspected suspicious activity, White said.
The guards were questioning Beatty-Jones’ friend, Jodi Grigsby, when he returned and started firing on the officers, police said. He fired five times at the guards, hitting each of them once.
It was the second time in a week the couple had been involved in a shooting, White said.
Grigsby, 45, and Beatty-Jones were together March 22 near the Summit Square Apartments when Grigsby was shot in the arm, according to a police report. Beatty-Jones later told officers he was there to buy $50 worth of marijuana when someone shot at their vehicle, the report stated.
White said Beatty-Jones was not a suspect in that shooting.
