Sheriff: Woman makes up story about armed home invasion in Miami County

A woman accused of making up a story about an armed home invasion will likely face charges, Miami County Sheriff Dave Duchak said.

Deputies were called around 8:20 a.m. Thursday to a home in the 600 block of Barnhart Road in Concord Twp. after a woman reported that when she went out the back door a man with a knife dressed in black confronted her and tried to get inside, according to a release from the sheriff.

The woman said the man cut her arm with the knife and then fled, and deputies noticed light cuts to her arm, the release stated.

Deputies set up a perimeter in the area and brought in a drone and K9 team. After a thorough search, no one was found and there were no other witnesses.

When detectives on Friday reinterviewed the woman, she admitted she made up the story and that there never was any intruder. Also, she admitted that her injuries were self-inflicted, the release stated.

Charges of inducing panic and filing a false police report will likely be filed after consultation with the Miami County Prosecutor’s Office.

“I want to reassure residents in that area that their neighborhood is safe and there was no intruder nor did an assault occur,” Duchak said.
