Sidney man released from Oman jail

A Shelby County man who was stuck in a Middle East jail has been released.

Tammy Murray, of Sidney, said her brother, William Holcomb, 42, is no longer in the jail in Oman, a country on the Arabian sea, east of Saudi Arabia. He was held there for 10 days.

His wife is stationed there with the U.S. military.

Holcomb, a father of two, was jailed by Omani Police on Sept. 5 for allegedly sending death threats, but was not officially charged with anything.

Last week, Holcomb's lawyers at the American embassy in Oman told News Center 7 they were doing everything they could to secure Holcomb's release and subsequent return home.

Family members said they were worried about his safety. "He had surgery on his arm before he left and they stomped his arm," said Holcomb's sister, Misty Lawrence.

"He was sleeping on a concrete floor and they stole all his clothes," said Holcomb's mother, Diana Erb.

They reached out to state government officials for help, including Governor John Kasich.
