Suspect caught after McDonald’s robbery

MIAMISBURG — A 53-year-old man was arrested after Miamisburg police said he was involved in a robbery that occurred at a McDonald’s, 15 N. Heincke Road early Friday.

The man was allegedly a part of a group of four men, at least one armed with a firearm, who stole an undetermined amount of money from the fast food restaurant. His identity was not immediately released.

The other suspects escaped, but police found the 53-year-old man with an injured leg along the route police used to search for the suspects, Miamisburg Police Sgt. Tom Thompson said.

The robbery occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at the 24-hour restaurant.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the four male suspects, who had concealed their faces with ski masks and bandannas, were possibly dropped off at the restaurant. Once they entered the restaurant, three of the suspects went to the back of the restaurant and headed for the safe.

There were several workers there at the time of the robbery, but none of them were harmed physically, Thompson said.

“They were acting in a threatening manner,” Thompson said of the suspects. “They knew where they were going. They were in and out.”

The suspects fled on foot toward a nearby Kroger, which is also on North Heincke Road, Thompson said.

When police were alerted about the robbery, a K-9 unit from another jurisdiction was called in and the dog tracked the suspects scent. Police were able to collect evidence that led police to believe that the suspects eventually fled the scene in a vehicle.

When police found the injured man, he matched the description of the suspects, Thompson said.

The 53-year-old man was treated and released at Sycamore Hospital before he was placed in police custody, pending the filing of formal charges of aggravated robbery. He was expected to be booked into the Montgomery County Jail Friday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the other suspects should contact Miamisburg Police via the Regional Dispatch Center at 225-4357.
