Tanning salon voyeurism investigation leads to child porn arrest

A Franklin man indicted last week by the Warren County Grand jury for possession of child pornography and voyeurism turned himself in to the Springboro Police Monday. Mike Slade Randolph is charged with 28 counts of pandering sexually oriented materials, voyeurism and attempted voyeurism after an investigation into an incident at a tanning salon where he was allegedly discovered recording other customers on his cell phone.

The investigation began on Jan. 2, after Springboro Police said a concerned customer at Palm Beach Tan, 724 N. Main St., Springboro, reported Randolph to them after reportedly seeing him record customers who were tanning.

Nathan Anderkin, Springboro Police, said their officers were able to identify the man, who’d posed as a customer, and tracked him down to Franklin. They seized his cell phone as evidence.

The phone held images of child pornography involving children between the ages of two and 10 years old. Their analysis also identified two additional victims had been allegedly recorded.

“Right now we are working with other agencies to possibly identify those children, but we don’t have any evidence that those children are local children,” said Anderkin.

Anderkin said the customer’s complaint is what led them to the subject.

“Act on your gut,” Anderkin advised. “If you get a bad feeling about something, or somebody, go with that gut feeling. Make sure that you arm yourself with enough information to protect yourself, protect your family and your children. And make sure you get those facts reported to the police right away to quickly investigate.”

Anderkin said the man has no previous criminal history, and lives in Franklin.

“He has no criminal record. He’s just your average guy,” he said.

“At this point, we think it’s pretty secluded, just to the Palm Beach here in Sprinboro. And we’re pretty confident that we’ve identified all the victims involved in this particular case,” Anderkin said.

Randolph being held in the Warren County jail and is scheduled to be in court Wednesday to answer to the charges.
