Three indicted in Franklin restaurant arson

LEBANON — Three men accused of setting a Franklin restaurant on fire after taking items and breaking into a safe Oct. 3 were indicted Friday by a Warren County grand jury on arson and other charges.

Caleb Ward, 19, of Franklin, Steven Dean, 19, of Miamisburg, and Terry Cragg, 23, of Franklin, were each indicted on charges of aggravated arson, a first-degree felony; burglary, a second-degree felony; safecracking and tampering with evidence, both fourth-degree felonies.

The indictments were made public on Monday.

Cragg and Ward bond are being held in the Warren County Jail without bond. In addition, Cragg is slated for a two-day jury trial to begin Dec. 19 on a charge of receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony.

Both Cragg and Ward are slated to be arraigned at noon today in Warren County Common Pleas Court.

Dean is under house arrest and is expected to be arraigned in about two weeks.

The fire at the 543 S. Main St. location broke out just after 7:30 a.m. on Oct. 3.

Firefighters from Franklin, Middletown, Turtlecreek and Miami townships, Lebanon and Miamisburg battled the blaze for nearly four hours.

The building was valued at $70,590 according to the Warren County Auditor’s Office website. The fire was ruled an arson on Oct. 5.

Dean and Ward were arrested Oct. 6 by Franklin police. Cragg was arrested Oct. 7 by Clark County Sheriff’s deputies.
