“Charges have not been filed; however, they are pending,” Holmes said.
Meanwhile, the 1-year-old is continuing to show signs of improvement after undergoing surgery at Children’s Hospital and could be released soon.
The boy suffered facial and head injuries after being attacked Tuesday by the family’s pit bull-boxer mix at their home in the 800 block of Barrington Court.
“The boy appears to be doing better,” Holmes said.
The dog, one of three owned by the Durbins, bit one of the other dogs and Melissa Durbin before attacking the toddler, according to neighbors.
Neighbors said Melissa Durbin allegedly told investigators that the dog was loose after the incident, and instead hid the dog inside her home, where it was believed to still be as of Wednesday.
Under the city of Trenton’s dangerous and vicious dog ordinance, a pit bull mix is considered a “vicious dog,” requiring owners to have up to $100,000 in liability coverage for their pet.
Trenton Police Chief Tim Traud said he did not believe the dog was licensed. There were no previous police calls to the home, he said.
