Troy man pleads not guilty to beating child

TROY — A former Troy man pleaded not guilty Monday to felony endangering children in connection with the severe beating of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son in October.

Scott H. Fansler, 29, now lists his address as Greenville. He was indicted last week by a Miami County Grand Jury on the second-degree felony charge.

He is accused of beating the boy Oct. 11 when he was supposed to be watching the child while the boy’s mother worked. Troy police said the mother took the boy to the hospital around 4:30 a.m. Oct. 12 with injuries that included a skull fracture and bleeding in the brain.

The boy was listed for a time in critical condition at The Children’s Medical Center of Dayton. He has been released, but remains under treatment.

Fansler’s bail of $100,000, set earlier in county Municipal Court, was continued at the arraignment in county Common Pleas Court.
