Two women plead guilty in Logan County Thanksgiving day killing

Two women are the latest to plead guilty to charges in the case of a Logan County man killed on Thanksgiving.

Jasmine Lewis, 17, pleaded guilty to complicity to murder, according to Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart. The charge carries a sentence of life in prison, he said.

“We believe that the evidence showed she was instrumental in the planning of the robbery,” he said.

Tatiana Freeman, 18, was 17 at the time at the crime. She pleaded guilty to complicity to aggravated robbery, Stewart said. She faces between three and 11 years in prison, he said.

“She got caught up with the wrong people at the wrong time,” Stewart said, “but still participated.”

Jeff Brentlinger, 45, was found shot to death in his home on Thanksgiving morning.

Prosecutors alleged the teens were involved in a plot to rob Brentlinger. Lewis and Freeman were invited to Brentlinger’s home, prosecutors said in court.

Authorities said Brentlinger set up a video camera prior to Lewis and Freeman coming to his house in the moments before he was shot. The laptop was set on a shelf in his open bedroom closet.

In the 30-minute video, a man can be heard breaking into the house and within seconds Brentlinger is sitting on a bed with a gun pointed at him, according to a video shown in court.

During a brief struggle, a gunshot is heard and the gunman can be heard saying, “Give me your money.”

Brentlinger later says, “I know you.” Then as the two go off camera, another gunshot is heard. Prosecutors said that was the deadly shot.

Two men, Marquevous Watkins, 22, and Zachariah Huddleston, 23, have been sentenced to life in prison for Brentlinger’s murder.

Another woman, Alexus Walton, has also been charged with complicity to commit murder, complicity to commit aggravated burglary and complicity to commit aggravated robbery. Her case is pending.
