An Urbana man accused of creating and distributing pictures of the sexual abuse of an infant girl was sentenced to 12 years in prison, according to the Department of Justice Southern District of Ohio.

Adam J. Moffitt, 31, also will remain under court supervision for the rest of his life.

He pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography in June 2018.

Between October and November 2016, Moffitt posted in chat rooms that discussed and shared child porn and abuse, according to the DOJ.

On at least three occasions, he reportedly posted links that led to child porn images.

Two of those links had images Moffitt created showing sexual abuse of the girl.

“The fact that an undercover officer in New Zealand, who was patrolling the internet, found the images Moffitt posted underscores the global danger of child exploitation,” U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman said. “Distributing such disturbing images all but ensures that the child will continue to be victimized long after this case is concluded.”

Investigators found more than 600 images of child porn on Moffitt’s computer, according to the DOJ.

“Homeland Security Investigations will continue to aggressively target predators who share child pornography online; sharing furthers the motivation of those who are producing this repulsive material,” said Steve Francis, HSI. “As today's sentence clearly demonstrates, these are serious crimes with serious consequences."
