Woman jailed after fleeing DeGraff police

Police chief said the woman endangered village country fair goers.

A Pitsburg, Ohio, woman is in the Logan County Jail on charges accusing her of fleeing from police after a traffic stop.

Heather Fox, 30, of North Jefferson Street, was apprehended by police who found the Darke County woman hiding in the closet of a home on North Koke Street, DeGraff Police Chief George Piersall said Thursday night.

Police found the red Ford Mustang, which had raced away from the traffic stop on Cretcher Street, parked in the backyard of the home. Officers were given consent to search the residence and found Fox, Piersall said.

The Mustang’s driver, identified later as Fox, drove off from the traffic stop as the officer was checking her information. Piersall said the officer was ordered not to pursue the vehicle because he only had misdemeanor traffic violations on the driver at that point.

Fox continued driving recklessly from Cretcher to Miami Street and that put other motorists and people attending the village country fair in danger, the chief said.

Piersall said Fox, who was found to have been driving on a suspended license and no insurance, is being detained pending the filing of charges that include:

  • Failure to comply with a lawful order,
  • Reckless operation,
  • Obstructing official business,
  • Resisting arrest,
  • Driving under suspension,
  • and speeding.

Bail on three of the charges has been set at $500 each, according to online jail records, which also state that her initial court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 31.
