Darke Co. Honors Hometown Heroes

March is Red Cross Month and to celebrate, the Darke County Chapter of the Red Cross is honoring community hometown heroes.

There are many different ways to define what a hero is, but the Darke County Red Cross believes that hometown heroes are the people who make the community safer, healthier and a better place to live.

Starting this month, the American Red Cross is celebrating fireman, police officers, teachers, nurses and other ordinary people who have accomplished something extraordinary. These heroes are being honored on a national website, www.redcross.org/hometownheroes for their contributions to America and the following resident is included:

William Bunger, of Greenville, was nominated for his life-saving action at work, Auto Lube. He was nominated by Keith Fourman. Fourman said he fell through a trap door and cut himself deeply. He said Bunger came to his aid and pulled him out of the trap door, stopped the bleeding and called 911.

You can also meet Darke County heroes at a dinner honoring them on March 31. The dinner will be held at the First United Methodist Church on West Fourth Street.

The dinner will be from 4-7 p.m. and honorees will be presented as they are able to attend.
