Demolition begins at site of new area Kroger

Interior demolition has begun at the planned Kroger store in the Springboro Plaza Shopping Center on Ohio 73, a city official said.

The new store will be about 90,298 square feet. It will be built where a Kmart store formerly was at 625 W. Central Ave., on the east end of a shopping center where a Kroger is currently operating.

A Springboro city staff report indicated there will also be a gas station near the site, on the northwest side of the plaza, and a pharmacy and a Starbucks inside the Kroger.

“The Kmart garden center on the east/South Pioneer Boulevard frontage would be removed and replaced with a drive-through window for the pharmacy and queuing for Kroger PickUp (formerly Clicklist),” according to the staff report.

It’s not clear when the building will be completed, though the report initially indicated that the store would be done by November 2021. Kroger did not return several requests to comment on the project. It is not clear what would happen to the existing Kroger at that plaza.

Kroger built a new 99,000-square foot store just north of Springboro at Austin Landing in 2012.
