The owners of the breeding operation passed away recently and the son contacted the Humane Society of the United States to come take care of the 250 dogs on the property, according to Brian Weltge, president and CEO of HSGD.
There were more than 250 dogs on the property. Many other shelters assisted in taking ownership of the dogs, according to the release.
The animals will need medical care and attention for at least a few weeks, but they are expected to be made available for adoption, officials said.
