Janney’s Golden Globe win among elite list for Ohio-born performers

Oakwood native Allison Janney being named Sunday night as the best supporting actress in a motion picture at the Golden Globe Awards was the latest honor earned by a performer born in Ohio, including a handful from Southwest Ohio.

Her top performance in I, Tonya joins several other awards for those born in the Buckeye State, including:

-Halle Berry, Cleveland, Academy Award. best actress, 2001, Monster's Ball.

-Clark Gable, Cadiz in eastern Ohio, Academy Award, best actor, 1934, It Happened One Night.

-John Legend, Springfield, multiple Grammy Awards from 2006-16, including best new artist, best male R&B vocal performance (twice), best R&B song, and best R&B album.

-Henry Mancini, Cleveland, multiple Academy Award winner from 1961-1982 for best original song and best original score, including, "Moon River" from Breakfast at Tiffany's.

-Martin Sheen, Dayton, Emmy Award, 1994, outstanding guest actor in a comedy series (Murphy Brown), and 2001, best actor in a drama series (The West Wing).
