All but 22 Kroger stores in southwest Ohio to begin offering home delivery

Kroger will expand its curbside and grocery delivery options this year, including adding curbside pickup to another 500 stores, the company announced Monday.

The grocer will expand its deliver operations in the Cincinnati area through a partnership it has with Instacart, a grocery delivery service. The service will include the company’s Lebanon store in Warren County.

Just 22 stores in the Dayton and Cincinnati areas will not have a home delivery option during the service’s roll out this week, said Kroger spokeswoman Erin Rolfes.

Kroger already offers curbside pickup at more than 1,091 stores, according to the company. The additional pickup spots would mean Kroger would have close to 1,600 locations. Kroger also offers home delivery from more than 872 stores in 45 markets including Columbus and Cincinnati, according to the company.

Kroger’s decision was made in light of the company’s recent success with digital sales. The company’s digital sales increased by 90 percent in 2017, said Yael Cosset, Kroger’s chief digital officer.

In January, the Cincinnati-based grocery chain announced its plans to roll out a “Scan, Bag, Go” service to 400 stores in 2018. The service will allow shoppers to avoid checkout lines by scanning bar codes of items they want to buy using a hand-held scanner or through Kroger’s “Scan, Bag, Go” app on a smartphone.

Kroger has invested heavily in its digital shopping experience for customers, launching ClickList in its 1,000 store earlier this month in Milford. Kroger introduced its first ClickList store in November 2014 in Liberty Twp.

“When you look at Kroger’s customer coverage area for seamless shopping, two-thirds of our customers – more than 40 million households – have access to curbside pickup and/or delivery,” Cosset said. “Our goal is for these convenient services to be available to every customer.”
