Citizen’s outburst interrupts Riverside City Council

UPDATE @ 7:55 p.m.: A citizen's outburst occurred after Riverside City Council voted to initiate impeachment proceedings against a city councilman.

Councilman Steven Fullenkamp will get an impeachment hearing following a complaint by the police chief in June.

Only News Center 7’s cameras were present when a resident approached Mayor Bill Flaute and accused him of lying, apparently because the mayor claiming there would not be a vote this evening.

The resident, identified by city staff as Steve Massa, approached the dais immediately after the meeting and accused the mayor of lying. Flaute slammed his gavel several times as other residents continued to yell.

Council Member Fullenkamp had no comment.

The mayor said the promise to residents was that there would not be a vote to remove Fullenkamp tonight. The vote taken by council was to initiate a hearing and appoint a special council to handle Fullenkamp’s removal.

Interim City Manager Mark Carpenter said police have been called to the city hall.
