Miami County elections board chairman to resign

TROY – Kelly Gillis, chairman of the Miami County Board of Elections, announced today he will resign his seat on the board at year’s end.

Gillis, a Tipp City resident, has been on the board for 13 years. He is a Democrat and has notified the party executive committee of his decision. The committee will appoint his replacement on the four-member board.

“It has been a wonderful and rewarding experience, but it is time to hand it off to the younger generation,” Gillis said in a written statement distributed at the election board’s monthly meeting. “I want to thank the Miami County Democratic Party for the confidence they placed in me by allowing me to serve.”

Fellow board member Jose Lopez, a Republican, thanked Gillis for his service. "You've done a great job and I appreciate you staying on through the November election," Lopez said. NANCY BOWMAN, CONTRIBUTING WRITER
