Should we care that Mike Turner and his wife are separating?

The state of Congressman Mike Turner's marriage has been a hot topic online since his office issued a statement saying the congressman and his wife, Lori Turner, are splitting up after 25 years of marriage.

"It is with much sadness that I announce that my wife Lori and I are separating. We consider this a private issue. I appreciate the thoughts and prayers of our friends, family and community, and will not be commenting any further on this matter," Turner said in the prepared statement we told you about last night.

Kara Willemsen of Beavercreek, a follower of Daytondailynews.com's Facebook page, didn't want to know.

“Really hate when we bring people’s personal lives into politics,” her post says. “This has nothing to do with how he does his job.”

James Brady has a different take on the issue.

“Meanwhile, this man has taken an active stance on banning gay marriage for my partner and I. Way to protect your so-called ‘sanctity of marriage.’ Gotta love it!” he wrote.

Turner opposes same-sex marriage rights.

According to On The Issue, a website that provides information on politicians, the Republican and former Dayton mayor has been rated 100 percent by the Christian Coalition of America for a pro-Family Value voting record.

Lori Turner is vice president of marketing at Kettering Health Network. She has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Dayton.
