About 143 million households across the country are expected to receive invitations for the United States 2020 Census starting this week.

Households are urged to respond when they receive their invitation, expected to arrive in mailboxes between March 12 and March 20, according to a release from the U.S. Census Bureau.

All households that receive a mail invitation and have not responded will receive a second letter shortly after reminding them to respond. Then, households that still haven’t responded will receive a series of additional reminders, including a paper questionnaire in mid-April.

Census takers will later follow up with households that don’t respond to collect responses in person, the release stated.
