Academic Decathlon Team to compete in Hawaii

The Oakwood High School Academic Decathlon Team has won the Ohio state competition for the fourth year in a row, and will travel to Honolulu for the national contest later this month.

The Oakwood team took first place in their division at nationals in 2012 and 2013, where 50 teams from 34 states, as well as London and China, compete.

Each year, Oakwood’s Academic Decathlon students make themselves experts in a different topic. To prepare for this year’s contest, they have been studying WWI since the beginning of the school year.

Fundraising for the trip to Hawaii for eight students and their coach is underway. Students will be going door to door in Oakwood on April 12 to request donations. Or, donations may be sent to Oakwood High School, earmarked for Academic Decathlon.

The competition takes place in Honolulu, April 22-28. STAFF REPORT
