Annexation may affect South Lebanon Elementary

LEBANON — Three property owners along Ohio 48 in Hamilton Twp. have filed a request to annex their land into the village of South Lebanon.

Bill Duning, a Lebanon attorney, said the request to annex just more than 25.3 acres would also include annexing South Lebanon Elementary into the village.

The request was filed Dec. 9 with Warren County Commission.

Duning said the annexation area, which starts from the village’s boundary on the east side of Ohio 48, will have the three residential properties helping to bridge the school property and bring that into the village.

“The people who went to South Lebanon Elementary School want the school in the village,” he said.

He said the school property would be included into the annexation as its adjacent to the other three properties that are part of the request.

However, he said the Kings School District is not requesting to be annexed.

Duning said the schools are not asked if they want to be part of an annexation request because they’re a governmental entity.

Duning said the request is a Type 2 annexation and a hearing is not required, but the Warren County commissioners have to approve the request and can ask for a hearing.

Duning said he is expecting a hearing and expects Hamilton Twp. officials will object to the request.

He said he expects the commissioners to set a hearing date for some time in January.

Hamilton Twp. Trustee Becky Ehling said Monday she was not aware of the annexation request and that it had not been presented to the trustees.

She said there could be a presentation on the matter at their meeting on Wednesday.
