HAMILTON TWP. — Take a step back in time this week at the four-day annual antique machinery show that sprawls over several acres at Oeder’s Lake.
The Fort Ancient Restored Machinery (FARM) Club show, which kicked off Thursday and runs through Sunday, will offer thousands of visitors — from suburban families to folks who have moved away from agriculture life — a chance to get a glimpse of old-fashioned farming with demonstrations of wheat thrashing, hay baling, cornhusking, antique sawmilling and much more.
“For people who have never lived on a farm, it could be a totally new and interesting experience. For others, it could be a time to step back into the past,” said Jim Hurst, FARM president of the event that draws thousands of visitors each year.
“It’s a chance to see up close and personal how things were done on a farm.”
In addition to large machinery demonstrations, smaller, “hit and miss” machines will be operating. Tractor pulls for all ages, including ladies’ powder puff pulls, kiddy mini tractor pulls and garden tractor pulls will be taking place during the four-day event, which also includes live entertainment, a parade, craft and food booths, a swap meet and flea market.
“A big part of the show is the community social event. You may see people there that you haven’t seen for a while. It’s just a nice, safe atmosphere for people to get together and reminisce. It’s just a good time,” Hurst said.
