The $10 million, 65,000-square-foot hotel will use solar panels on the roof to support water heating, an energy wheel to conserve heating and cooling costs, Insulated Concrete Forms for the exterior walls to improve insulation, fluorescent lighting and more.
“These (efforts) should save about 30 percent in total energy consumption,” HiFive President Brian Zilch said.
The hotel will have four stories and 111 guest rooms, an indoor pool and spa, fitness room, boardroom and more than 1,200 square feet of meeting space.
A sidewalk will be built between the hotel and the Chop House restaurant next door.
Middletown Hotel Management will own and operate the hotel, which was designed and is being built by HiFive.
“Thank you for choosing our community for your hotel,” said Washington Twp. Trustee Vice President Dale Berry, who took part in the ground-breaking with Trustee Scott Paulson. “It will be a great addition to the fine businesses in this area.”
This will be the only Holiday Inn Express & Suites in the Dayton Mall market, since the one at 31 Prestige Plaza in Miamisburg will operate under a different brand name.
The Washington Twp. hotel is scheduled to open next summer.
