Area gas prices fall slightly

Gas prices in the Cincinnati metro area dropped a mere 4.1 cents in the past, averaging $3.74 per gallon today, April 11.

This is compared to a state average that jumped 12 cents and a national average that increased 7.7 cents, according to gasoline watchdog website CincyGasPrices.com.

The lowest gas price in the Hamilton area is $3.72 per gallon at the Speedway on Tylersville Road near the intersection with Ohio Bypass 4.

In the Middletown area, consumers can purchase it for $3.69 also at a Speedway on Oxford State Road near the intersection with South Main Street.

Prices in the Lebanon area remain a bit high this morning as most are posting a price of $3.79 per gallon.

Locally, prices hit an average of $3.78 per a gallon for regular grade Friday, April 8.

Americans drive an average of 13,476 miles each year, according to the Federal Highway Administration. The owner of a car that gets 30 miles per gallon could end up paying nearly $1,700 in the next year if prices remain at current levels.

That’s almost $500, or 25 percent, more per year than one year ago when the average price was $2.83 per gallon.

A survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express puts the statewide average price for regular-grade gasoline at $3.79 a gallon, compared to $3.67 last Monday.

One month ago, Ohio motorists were paying an average of $3.56 for regular. Last year at this time, the state average was $2.82 per gallon.

Gas prices have taken off as oil prices have surged above $112 a barrel on jitters about problems in Libya, Nigeria and other major oil suppliers.

Ohio’s record average price is $4.05, set in July 2008.
