Arrest made in Middletown hit and run

Police: Pedestrian attempted suicide, asked not to be saved.

A Middletown man was arrested Sunday morning after he fled the scene after allegedly hitting a pedestrian earlier in the morning.

Marcus Quinn, 36, of Middletown has been charged with felony fleeing the scene of an accident and driving under suspension, said Sgt. Steve Ream. Ream said Quinn was arrested around 7 a.m. Sunday at West Chester Hospital. He said Quinn sustained some injuries as a result of striking the pedestrian.

Police said the pedestrian, David Banks, 35, of Middletown, was attempting to cross Roosevelt Boulevard after leaving a party in the 1500 block of Highland Avenue. Around 12:43 a.m., Banks was walking toward Smith Avenue when he was struck by a 2003 KIA sedan in the eastbound lanes of the roadway, police said. Quinn reportedly borrowed the car from a friend earlier in the evening to go to the store but had not come back.

Lt. Scott Reeve said after several witness accounts and an interview with the driver, police believe Banks stepped out into traffic in an attempt to kill himself. Paramedics on the scene reported Banks made several comments about “letting him die and that he wanted to die,” according to police reports.

Several friends of Banks who were at the party on Highland Avenue told police at the scene that Banks was intoxicated and had made comments he was going to “go jump in front of a car,” according to police reports.

Banks was taken by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He is listed in serious condition after sustaining multiple injuries to his legs, arms and torso.

Quinn is free after posting a $3,000 bond following his appearance in Middletown Municipal Court. His case has been continued to 9 a.m. Jan. 13 so that he could obtain his own attorney. In addition, Quinn also had multiple warrants for his arrest, according to police.
