1 arrested for OVI at Friday night checkpoint

Two people were arrested and 40 citations were issued during an OVI checkpoint held Friday in Montgomery County.

The checkpoint was located in the 2200 block of James H. McGee Boulevard between Gettysburg Avenue and Philadelphia Drive

Of the 626 vehicles that passed through, one of two drivers tested was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to a release from the Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County.

The other arrest was on a felony warrant, according to the release.

Additionally, there were three seat belt violations, three speed infractions, six drivers under suspension, 11 no driver’s licenses, four drug citations and 11 other citations for expired registration and no license plates, according to the release.

FIRST REPORT

An OVI checkpoint will be held tonight in Dayton.

The ckeckpoint will be held from 9 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday near the 2200 block of James H. McGee, between Gettysburg Avenue and Philadelpia Drive, according to a release.

Members of the Combined Agency OVI Task Force of Montgomery County, Dayton Police, and Five Rivers MetroParks will operate the checkpoint.

“The goal of the OVI task force is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities in Dayton and Montgomery County. Sobriety checkpoints do help to deter impaired driving and they aid in the apprehension of those impaired drivers, who make the choice to get behind the wheel and drive,” the release read.
