Basketball team, Haiti campaign make Piqua proud

PIQUA — Piqua City Schools have lots to be proud of these days.

•The Piqua Junior High School eighth grade girls basketball team was crowned Greater Western Ohio Conference champions after defeating Northmont 30-25 on Feb 8.

•Washington Intermediate fourth-grade students in teacher Patricia Deaton’s class led the efforts in raising almost $500 in their Hope for Haiti campaign.

The money was donated to the Miami County Red Cross and the process was linked to their classroom lessons, the study of advertising and persuasion in leading a campaign.

•The Piqua Community Foundation supplied High Street first-grade students with new dry erase boards and erasers used for math and spelling projects.
