Bellbrook mayor resigns

Bellbrook Mayor Robert Baird is resigning from his elected post.

Baird is moving out of the city limits and will be unable to continue serving as mayor because of requirements in the city charter.

Baird has served the city as an elected official for more than 15 years, serving on council from 2004 to 2011 then being elected mayor in 2012.

In his absence, Deputy mayor Mike Schweller will serve as the city mayor until the end of the year.

Voters will have an opportunity to elect a new mayor in November.

In a prepared statement, Baird said he is grateful to residents “for giving me the opportunity to serve the community.” He said he has “immensely enjoyed” his role and working with the community, council members and city staff members.
