Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools’ Hall of Fame inductees chosen

SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County — The four inductees for the 2011 Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Schools’ Hall of Fame have been chosen.

The induction ceremony to honor the four men will be the program for BHS “Keep inTouch” alumni dinner to be held June 4 at Bellbrook Middle School, 3600 Feedwire Road, said Bill Wright, a member of the eight-member HOF selection committee and business manager for the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek schools.

The buffet dinner, which begins at 6 p.m., is $18 per person.

“Each year we have seen an increased attendance at the dinner,” Wright said. Past honorees often attend and are recognized, and a power point presentation of the current inductees, with pictures from their past and present, submitted by them, are shown, he said

This year’s inductees are: John Dorn, a 1968 graduate of Bellbrook High School who was one of the founders of the youth soccer organization in Bellbrook; Austin Spitler, a 2005 BHS graduate, the first BHS graduate to be drafted and play for an NFL football team, the Miami Dolphins; Dale Walker, a 1966 BHS graduate who starred and set records in cross-country, and track and field in high school, college, and in the U.S. Army, and then taught and coached in Bellbrook; and the late Larry Will, who grew up in Indiana, but served the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek school district 30 years as a science teacher, football and basketball coach, advisor, assistant principal at Bellbrook High School (1976) and athletic director and junior high principal (1981) before retiring in 1999.

He also was an advocate of special needs/handicapped children and children who had problems in a traditional classroom environment. He died in 2008.
