A bill has been introduced to name a strip of Ohio 725 in Miamisburg after its longtime mayor, who is retiring this month after 28 years.

The portion from Main to Seventh streets along the state route – also known as Central Avenue – would become Mayor Dick Church Jr. Way, under a proposal put forth today by state Rep. Niraj Antani, R-Miamisburg.

Church is one of the longest continuously serving mayors of any of Ohio’s cities with a population of more than 10,000. He will retire at the end of this month.

He is completing his seventh term – many of them unopposed – in that office after being elected to one term on city council.

“Mayor Church is someone I have known since I was a child, and I have valued my friendship with him over the years,” Antani said in a statement released by his office. “He is truly a Miamisburg institution, and his tenure as mayor has resulted in great prosperity for the city.”
