The West Carrollton Police Department plans to host a Citizen’s Police Academy this fall. Classes will begin Aug. 11 in the Fredrick J. Beard Training Room of the police department. The academy will meet each Thursday for eight weeks from 6:30-9 p.m.
Topics include: evidence collection, use of force including firearms and Tasers, accident and drug investigations, and more. Participants will receive hands-on training and complete a ride-along with an on-duty officer.

City-sponsored block party Aug. 13
The first city-sponsored Neighborhood Block Party will be held on Aug. 13 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Olde Downtown neighborhood on Main Street between Locust Street and Burns Avenue.
The goal of the event is to provide local residents a chance to get to know their neighbors as well as interact with city elected and appointed officials.
The event will include hot dogs and drinks, a bounce house, corn hole, police and fire department displays and other activities.
The city hopes to host several neighborhood gatherings over the next year in different locations around the city.

Founders Day, Balloon Fest and Concert Aug. 6
On Aug. 6 come out to Kercher Park on Astoria Road for the Arthur Huffer Jr. Memorial Germantown Founders Day, Hot Air Balloon Fest and Concert.
The day’s activities include: 6:30-8 p.m., hot air balloon launch, 7-9 p.m., performance by “Be-Caged” and 9-9:30 p.m., hot air balloon “glow.”
Special election for street levy Aug. 2
A special election proposing a 7-year tax levy to reconstruct streets will be up for vote, Aug. 2, 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. You can also vote by absentee ballot, at www.MCBOE.org.
The levy is expected to cover the reconstruction of, South Main, South Plum, Perry and Peffley.
If passed, the first project would begin next spring.

Theatre Under the Stars Aug.5-7 and 12-14
On Aug. 5-7 and 12-14 Playhouse South is back for another year of Theatre Under the Stars. This year, the group is presenting The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
Performances take place at the Amphitheater at North Park, 195 Tamarack Trail. All shows starts at 7:30 p.m. and are free.
