Business owners invited to community safety meetings

Middletown business owners are invited to attend monthly meetings to improve crime and safety in the community, said Brenda Dillman, who owns with her husband Dillman Foods on Central Avenue.

The meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month at The Chamber of Commerce Serving Middletown, Monroe and Trenton, 1500 Central Ave., Middletown. Attendees don’t have to be chamber members.

The next meeting is Monday, Jan. 16. Dillman, who organized the first meeting in August, will lead discussion on upcoming quarterly sessions with the police, future plans and any crime-related problems local business owners are having.

Police have been involved to help businesses protect their establishments against crime. Middletown Police Lt. John Magill has helped come up with the following schedule of future meeting topics: Feb. 20, physical security of your place of business; May 21, how to identify counterfeit currency and checks; July 16, self defense and dealing with violent individuals; and Oct. 15, employee and internal theft.
